IPL, a success…
The DLF Indian Premier league T20 has definitely been a super hit in its first edition. The successful teams that made it into the semifinals were the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI and the Delhi Dare devils. The T20 has become the best short time entertainment format of cricket. The winners of this mega IPL event are the players, the team owners, the sponsorers etc…. It has also tapped the young fresh blood for the Indian cricket and its time for the Dravid’s, Ganguly’s, Sachin’s( he still wants to play !, well, he is master batsman of cricket, but the young talent should be recognised and given the opportunity) to step down.
Rajasthan Royals have won the Inagural edition. Yusuf Pathan, Shane Watson have been the key players for RR success. Tanvir, too has made an impact with his bowling. Chennai Super Kings led by the one day Indian Captain M S Dhoni, were very strong during the starting matches but were weakened with Mike Hussey, Hayden returning to Aussie camp. Stephen Fleming, filled their place but wasn’t able to make good scores. CSK lacked good starts. Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Gony have been consistent performers. They lost to RR in the nail-biting finals.
Kings XI have the best balanced side in the IPL, but the batting order collapsed in the crucial semis. Shaun Marsh, has been the most consistent batsman. Royals Challengers and Deccan chargers need to get back to the bascis. Mr. Mallya, please make it a point to be present while selecting players next time. With Symond, Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma, i thought DC had good players but they failed to perform as a team.
Delhi Daredevils, with Gambir, Dhawan, McGrath were indeed a very good side. The rain also played against their goal to enter semis. Mumbai Indians, as the tournament passed were a good team with inclusion of Sachin and the explosive opening by him and Jayasuriya was a treat to watch. But the late resurgence by MI wasn’t enough for them to compete to last 4.
Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Kinght riders, the team most advertised, have made the profits despite not making it to the semis. The accessories that were released with the theme of the KKR has also attracted the people to buy. Initally with David Hussey, Ricky Ponting & McCullum in the team, KKR, were hot favorites. Ishant Sharma & Ashok Dinda have proved that they have the fire to wear an Indian cap.
India has been the greatest benefit of all. Also the young players getting an opportunity to prove their mettle.
Not to forget the cheer-leaders & Slapping gate incident have added the needed masala to the event.
Lalit Modi must be a happy man..
