‘Classical tag’
Its time to celebrate Kannda Rajyostava in more meaningful way. The decision by the Central Government to entitle ‘Kannada’ language with ‘classical’ status has made people of Karnataka happy. The efforts by various individuals, organizations or the Government should be appreciated. Everyone seems to be taking credit on this occasion, no matter, but the language with 2000 years of history has got its due recognition. Local news channels are flashing it as “gift” by the central govt. for the Rajyostava day. I feel the word ‘gift’ is wrong word to use.
” Kannadakke shastriya stanamana sigabeku!”, this used to surface during the mid october every year and die away after November 1st. Now we have got it, its vital for me and you to understand what the ‘classical tag’ to a language actually mean. To give a overall picture, its means, the language is
- It should be ancient
- An independent tradition which is unique and grown on its own.
- The body should have connection with the ancient literature.
