‘Bimba’

with 3 comments

The ‘honeymoon’ period of the corporate life is fading away. ‘Friday 4 pm’ has been most expected time for me these days. The mood would be like going to a trip to refresh our minds and almost everyone would stop working. Planning for the weekend on my way to home.

This ‘Sunday’ was probably was a action packed event. For a F1 fan like me and you ( if you aren’t, you probably missed something), its a race we can never forget. The last race at Brazil, made Lewis Hamilton, the youngest formula 1 champion, he deserved it though. But, my feelings are for Massa, for a Ferrari fans ( me too) , it was a heart-break. It was the perfect race for Massa, i felt he gave his best as though driving for his life. So said, luck or fate, whatever you call , had decided the world champion. A point difference was all that was required. With Toyota’s plan not to pit Timo Glock for Intermediate tyres, helped Hamilton to overtake Timo and get the all required fifth position, resulting in ‘a point’ difference. Kudos to Ferrari team for winning the constructors title. A sad end to DC’s career. Hope, the next season would be competitve with Alonso, Kimi, Massa, Lewis, Vettel and Kubica to watch.

Kumble’s sudden retirement from the test cricket, almost got everyone in suprise. The ‘warrior’ announced it almost at the end of the test match at Kotla. He is one of the cricketers who have given 100% commitment towards the sport. Respected, passionate, the list goes on…, All the best ‘Jumbo’.., we miss you.

I had been to open theatre drama show yesterday. It was my first experience and i really enjoyed it. ‘Bimba’, a Hanumantha nagar based group, performed at the Suchitra film centre near Banashankari. ‘Bimba’, for the past 19 years, has been going strong to guide children on their overall development and ‘theatre skills’ in specific. The programme started off with a song, followed by the ‘rasa prashne’. I should admit my knowledge of kannada literature was almost ‘nil’. Skits followed and a food mela was organised. ‘Bimba band’ group rocked the evening. Buckets, tumbler, plates were used as instruments. It is really good for a group such as ‘Bimba’ to encourage people to actively participate in theatre events. The script, logistics were taken care by small children. In this digital and e-world, i wish such programmes continue and attract people. This group conducts such event every 4 months. Do take time to visit these events..

Nokia firmware update in easy steps.

with 985 comments

Do you use a Nokia phone? Are you not satisfied with the current software in the phone? Have you come across any software error in the phone? Are you not satisfied with the battery life-time of your phone ?

If yes, do read this:

‘People’, once they buy the Nokia phone are not aware of the fact that updates for their phone would be available approximately every month. I just want to spread the awareness of it.

‘Firmware’ is the software that runs on your Nokia phone. It is important for you to keep your phone firmware updated. The various applications which interact with the hardware of the phone as well as those which mainly provides an user interface also gets updated. New applications, features are provided.

Requirements for Firmware update on PC side:

  • Nokia Software updater ( NSU) is the software on the PC which assists in the firmware installation on your phone. So, to find out whether your phone has a ‘firmware update’ option and to download appropriate NSU check: NSU. Once you have downloaded the NSU, install it in your PC.
  • Windows Xp/Vista, minimum of 256 MB RAM, 1GHz processor.
  • High speed ( Broadband) internet connection.
  • UPS backup for the PC. Make sure their is no power failure during updation.

Requirements for the Phone:

  • Phone should be switched ON.
  • It should have a valid SIM card.
  • General profile should be activated.
  • Its is very important for the phone to be fully charged prior to updation / connect the charger during the process. Otherwise, it could cause unrevertible damage to the phone.
  • Backup your phone memory and/or memory card. Phone memory can be backed-up on the memory card. To do this. go to: Menu->Tools->Memory->Options->Backup phone memory. OR you can backup using Nokia PC Suite. In the PC suite, you have a application ‘Content Copier’. Using it, you can backup phone memory, memory card, messages, calender entries on your PC. I would suggest you to backup on your PC. During software update, the phone memory will be formatted.
  • USB cable which comes with your handset.

With above requirements/ precautions taken care, use the following steps:

1. Connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable. Use ‘PC Suite’ option in the phone. Accept the cable drivers installation on your PC during the first time of connection.

2. Open the NSU. It will detect your phone type and checks for the software update. It will display the Current firmware version and the available version. The other way to check whether update is available is: Availability

3. If you want to continue with updation, click on “Update”. The software will be downloaded from the server to your PC. Note: Internet connection should not be lost during this process.

4. After the software is downloaded, your phone screen will go blank and updation starts. On updating the phone reboots.

5. A message on your PC indicates the completion. Restore the contents either from the memory card or from the PC using the PC suite.

6. Allow the applications to installed again in your phone.

Do read the FAQ’s

Do post in your queries and watch out this space for more tips.

Enjoy the new features of the phone…

‘Classical tag’

with 3 comments

Its time to celebrate Kannda Rajyostava in more meaningful way. The decision by the Central Government to entitle ‘Kannada’ language with ‘classical’ status has made people of Karnataka happy. The efforts by various individuals, organizations or the Government should be appreciated. Everyone seems to be taking credit on this occasion, no matter, but the language with 2000 years of history has got its due recognition.  Local news channels are flashing it as “gift” by the central govt. for the Rajyostava day. I feel the word ‘gift’ is wrong word to use.

” Kannadakke shastriya stanamana sigabeku!”, this used to surface during the mid october every year and die away after November 1st. Now we have got it, its vital for me and you to understand what the ‘classical tag’ to a language actually mean. To give a overall picture, its means, the language is

  • It should be ancient
  • An independent tradition which is unique and grown on its own.
  • The body should have connection with the ancient literature.

For more details to substantiate all these, please do take time to read:

Do watch this video:  A song i loved to sing when my voice had raaga and thala.. 🙂

Stone….path…..goal….milestone.

leave a comment »

Hi reader. Hope you are having a good deepavali.., well, i spent the holiday watching films, good food and a sleep. From the past few days, a thought has been catching me. May be the events, were the reason. Sachin on completing his 12,000 runs made a statement at the press conference , ” Stones are thrown at you, turn them into milestones”. Its one of the quotes i strongly believe in.

Problems are always there. But finding a solution to it with patience requires a lot of commitment. Probably, the biggest problem of an engineering student in VTU face is the exam. In my first year, i was very low in my confidence, since what score i expected in my PU exams and the result i got were not matching. Definitely the momentum which most of us carry from PU , saved me during my first year. But in life, ‘some events’ do change your lives. I wanted to prove something to myself, the competition too helped me to work hard which resulted in me topping my branch. When you have success, you enjoy it and probably might get carried away by the recognition you get. Thats what exactly happened to me. A friend of mine gave me an advice, ‘ Hard work is important, but at the sametime Smart work is equally important’. It was eye opener for me. I had to change my plans to tackle exam, probably i began to start enjoying subjects, not all though; by tackling it in a smarter way.

The reason i wanted to put this point is that, nowadays, people jump into the engineering stream due to force by their parents or the so called ‘ lucrative IT jobs’, but during their course of study, they realize that its almost impossible for them to continue. This happened with ‘X’. At this junture, one should introspect themselves. 1. whats the reason for them not having the interest? 2. they should realize that scoring is not the only thing to substantiate the success. The cause for not showing interest may be because they haven’t understood the subject and hence makes no sense for them to study. So, the solution is to plug the loop-hole. I personally felt, unless you know what a subject is intended to enlighten us, you wont appreciate it. ‘Scores’ alone, will never take anyone near to success in ‘life’. Its the overall development that matters in the longer run. People have different talents which makes them unique. I feel, they should discover it and try to work on it.

‘ Stones’ are these problems what you face in life and ‘milestone’, i feel its not just the success, its the way you acheive it and happiness you get after succeeding. Also, the path of turning ‘stones into milestones’ should be in way, a better human being be born.

Summing it up, my suggestion to ‘X’ or any other is that believe in yourself. All of us have some goal, if you dont have, then its good, since when you start finding it, you will understand your weakness and strenghts. Invest on your strenghts and i bet you it wont be Stock market situation we are facing!! Have a positive attitude ( well, i m also working on it). One you achieve a goal, that itself would have a different meaning, i.e milestone. Approach and enjoy life as if it was your last day.

Keep smiling…

Doodle, with a different meaning?

leave a comment »

Google doodles reflects of what Google employees are doing; probably the event celebrated in some part of the world. On the occassion on deepavali, the doodle on the website, made me to think it in a different angle.

Deepavali , a festival of lights, the fall of the demons, the rise of the good, removal of darkness and ignorance from the mind. But i expected the doodle to be more colourful. The recession that is trying to reach every part of the world may be the reason for it to be dull. The smoke at the background could be the indication of it.  Financial crisis has affected all of us, in one way or the other. US in particular, is facing the heat. With 8 days left for the election, the battle for the US Presidentship, McCain and Palin blasting at Bush rule and his policies , trying to come out of the shadow of unpopularness of the President, it would be difficult for the duo to face Barack Obama. This is only fuelled the rising economic crisis, with parties busy in elections and not focussing on the situation that could have a global impact.

In India, the Dalal Street has witnessed some of deadly twists, running people for their money. Indeed, this has been an dampner for the deepavali celebrations. I hope the stars in doodle would give some hope to the people and the so called “stable Indian economic system” would prove its reliability..

Wish you all a Happy Deepavali…
